William Lewis left an extraordinary record of his life in over 300 documents. In 1860 he bought a 34-acre farm in Barre, MA, and for the rest of his life worked at dairying, growing fruits, and much more. He documented his orchard of 174 trees in his pear journals, recording over 90 varieties of the fruit. Using his journals and other sources, horticultural historian Christie Higginbottom will explore William's life, farm, and the orchard wisdom of the era.
