Solar Eclipses
Saturday, March 162:00—3:00 PMRoosevelt RoomMaynard Public Library77 Nason St, Maynard, MA, 01754
On Monday, April 8, 2024, the Moon will pass directly between Earth and the Sun, creating a total solar eclipse. The Moon's shadow, about 115 miles wide, will sweep a narrow path through North America, blocking the Sun in its entirety and turning day into night. Though Massachusetts is outside the direct path of totality, we will still be treated to a partial solar eclipse viewing lasting two hours. In this talk, Dr. Snios will discuss the scientific background of eclipses, what to expect, and preparations to make the most of this rare event.
Eclipse-viewing glasses will be distributed to program attendees!
Dr. Bradford Snios is a Research Associate with the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He is an aerospace engineer with experience in theoretical and computational astrophysics.
